PM Surya Ghar Scheme Crosses 30 Lakh Rooftop Solar Installations

PM Surya Ghar Scheme

Pralhad Joshi, the Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and New and Renewable Energy, talked about a big win in the Indian solar market on February 26, 2026. He shared a post that says India has now installed more than 30 lakh rooftop solar projects as part of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.

Pralhad Joshi shared these insights through his X handle, which Honourable PM Narendra Modi later reposted with a supportive message. He shared how this milestone reflects India’s green transformation at a commendable speed.

The Significance Of PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana For You

PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana was launched in the budget 2024-25. Beneficiaries can get subsidy support ranging between Rs. 30K to Rs. 78K, depending on the total capacity of your solar panel.

Under the scheme, eligible households receive a direct benefit transfer (DBT) subsidy to cover a substantial portion of installation costs. In addition, families can get up to 300 free units of electricity every month through this program. This reduces the financial burden of solar installation, leading to more installations and a reduction in carbon emissions.

Why Does This Milestone Matter?

The ultimate goal of this is to generate 500 GW of non-fossil energy capacity by 2030. Solar energy is one of the most effective and widely used strategies to become Net Zero.

This achievement of 30 Lakh installations, and many ongoing applications indicate the willingness and contribution of the Indian citizens towards reducing reliance on fossil fuel and carbon emission.

The goal of PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is to generate 1000 billion units of solar energy, which can reduce 720 million tonnes of carbon emission. This improves your climate, saves scarce natural resources, and builds a sustainable lifestyle.

What Is The Next Step Towards India’s Solar Vision?

India still has a long way to go to become carbon neutral. The Government of India continues to empower homeowners and solar manufacturers to increase the adoption of solar energy.

The Union Budget for 2026–27 made a lot of good changes that will improve the solar energy market in India. One of the most prominent ones is:

  •     Increasing the budget allocation to PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana to INR 22,000 crore
  •     Reducing the import duties on raw materials and machinery for solar manufacturing companies.

Both of these decisions reduce the financial burden on the manufacturer and consumers, leading to more local production and solar installation.

Sunora Solar has worked on a number of solar projects over the past ten years that produce more than 3 GW of solar energy. We are committed to making solar energy affordable and accessible and helping India achieve Net Zero status.
